Agave Spirits Challenge in the works

The soaring popularity of tequila on the U.S. market has given rise to the first Agave Spirits Challenge, scheduled for early January in Denver.

The event, which I will help judge, is being put together by Darin Jones of Tequila.net for the following categories:

• Tequila 100% Agave: Blanco, Reposado, Añejo, Extra Añejo

• Tequila Mixto - Joven: Silver, Gold, Reposado, Añejo

• Tequila Infusions

• Tequila Liqueur - Flavored

• Tequila Creme

• Mezcal: Blanco, Reposado, Añejo, Extra Añejo

• Sotol: Blanco, Reposado, Añejo, Extra Añejo

• Destilado de Agave: Blanco, Reposado, Añejo

• Raicilla: Blanco, Reposado, Añejo

• Bacanora: Blanco, Reposado, Añejo
